Obituary - PM Russ Spaulding

Russell Denis Spaulding, 74, of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, USA passed away on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009. Piper, instructor, Pipe Major, composer, publisher of two books, "The Spaulding Collection" and "A Piper's Primer". He studied piping under Duncan Johnstone. Past PM of Pipes & Drums of Arkansas College, the Caledonian Pipes & Drums of Cincinnati, and the Syrian Temple Scots of Cincinnati, where he served as Pipe Major of the Scots band that won the Imperial Piping Championship in 1989. He served briefly as Pipe Major for the Alhambra Shrine Pipes & Drums in Chattanooga. Russ was a founding member and original Pipe Major of the City of Chattanooga Pipe Band 1999-2008. The piping community has lost a valued mentor and cherished friend.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Heritage Funeral Home, 3239 Battlefield Parkway, Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, USA. Memorial service July 7, 11:30 a.m., graveside service 12:30 pm.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the City of Chattanooga Pipe Band, 10118 Walden St., Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379, USA.
